The editors of the journal «North Archives and Expeditions» founded in 2017 invite the authors who are interested in the wide range of historical, anthropological, political, economic, cultural, linguistic and others issues related to the historical past and the present day of the regions in the North, Siberia and the Far East.

Presentation of articles

Only articles presenting the results of independent theoretical and empirical research, reviews and reviews, and unique archival documents are accepted for publication in the journal “Northern Archives and Expeditions”. The article should be relevant, have novelty, reflect the formulation of the task (problem), approaches and research tools, describe the results and conclusions, represent the target audience, and meet technical requirements.

Works that have already been published or sent to other publications are not accepted for publication.

The manuscripts are accepted in both Russian and English.

The rules for the design of manuscripts are posted on the journal’s website in Russian and English. Works that are not designed according to the rules or do not correspond to the profile of the publication may be rejected by the editorial board of the journal without review.

The manuscripts of articles are necessarily checked for incorrect borrowings and plagiarism using the Antiplagiat system, as well as for the presence of AI-generated fragments. If significant borrowings and AI-generated fragments are found in the text, the manuscript may be rejected by the editorial board of the journal without review. The originality of the article should be at least 85% Anti-Plagiarism, all links in the text should be formatted correctly, mentioning the original source.

The authors are not charged for publication, only an electronic copy of the journal is provided.

The manuscript is sent to the editorial office by e-mail to the address of the journal’s manager: NAE_journal@mail.ru or sertachok@mail.ru Sertakova Ekaterina Anatolyevna, with a note “For the magazine “Northern Archives and Expeditions”

Reviewing articles

The scientific journal “Northern Archives and Expeditions” reviews all materials submitted to the editorial office that correspond to its subject matter in order to evaluate them. If the received material does not correspond to the stated topic of the journal, the article will not be reviewed, and the editorial board will immediately inform the author.

The authors’ materials are published only after receiving positive reviews of the article.

Double-blind peer review is used as the main method of reviewing (the author does not know the reviewer, the reviewer does not know the author). As a rule, two specialists are involved in the examination of one article.

The reviewers are mainly members of the editorial board, candidates and doctors of sciences. They are recognized experts on the subject of peer-reviewed materials and have published on the subject of the reviewed article for the last 3 years. Candidates and doctors of sciences outside the editorial board who have the necessary qualifications and are experts on the topic of the article may also be involved in reviewing.

The right to select reviewers belongs to the editorial board of the journal (editor-in-chief, deputy editor-in-chief, executive secretary). If the reviewer refuses to evaluate the text (including those related to conflicts of interest), the editorial board selects another expert. The Editorial Board has the right to appoint additional experts and/or conduct an independent expert review.

The manuscript is accepted for publication, rejected or returned to the author for revision only by decision of the editorial board. The decision of the editorial board is considered final.

When evaluating the material, experts use a single electronic review form, which necessarily indicates one of the 4 expert decision options: accept (the article can be accepted in its submitted form); accept subject to minor changes (the article does not require re-reviewing); accept subject to major changes (the article requires re-reviewing); reject.

If the reviewer indicates the need to make major changes to the article with repeated review, the manuscript is returned to the author for revision without consideration by the editorial board. After revision, the new version of the manuscript is sent for re-review by the same/the same expert who issued the relevant conclusion.

The authors are obliged to take into account the comments of the reviewer/reviewers and/or members of the editorial board by making appropriate corrections to the article. There is no time limit for text revision.

The expert decisions “accept”, “accept subject to minor changes” and “accept subject to major changes” are considered positive, the expert decision “reject” is considered negative. In case of receiving positive and negative reviews for one material, the editorial board involves a third specialist in the evaluation of the article.

An article is submitted to the editorial board only if it receives more positive than negative reviews.

If there are two negative reviews of the manuscript from two different reviewers, the article is rejected without being submitted to the editorial board.

In case of rejection of the article, the editorial board sends the author a reasoned refusal.

The reviews are kept in the publishing house and in the editorial office of the publication for 5 years, copies of them are provided upon request to the authors of the manuscripts. The editorial board undertakes to send copies of the reviews to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation upon receipt of a corresponding request.

The review period – between the dates of receipt of the manuscript by the editorial board and the decision of the editorial board or the editorial board – is usually at least 1 month.
